Are You on the List?

“Is your name on the guest list, sir?”

“No, but I’m not on the banned list either.”

“Oh, okay then, you may enter.”

Have you seen the new website on Degree Authorization posted by the British Columbia Ministry of Regional and and Skills Development? While I applaud the goal of informing potential students and others of unauthorized post-secondary institutions, it can be a losing proposition because as the website itself explains, it is almost impossible to keep up or effect any change.

What I’d rather see is additional effort put into things we can control – namingĀ the institutions that are approved and informing potential students and other interested parties that there is a list of approved schools. If the school is on the list, it’s safe. If not – buyer beware.
