Swine Flu and U

What is your university or college doing about the H1N1 Virus, commonly known as Swine Flu? Here in North America, several universities have made news headlines with their plans.

And it appears that something similar is going on in the UK

At TWU, each department has been instructed to come up with a plan and to assume that if a Swine Flu pandemic does hit us, we could lose 30% of our workforce for approximately two weeks to the illness. We’ve also done some education of staff regarding how the virus is communicated and how to minimize the chances of getting the flu. Each department manager is responsible to get the word out about this potential threat.

I know that if our department lost 30% of our staff during a busy time, our “business” would be severely impaired. Therefore, we’re making a concerted effort to cross-train and we are looking into the availability of former staff who might be able to come back to work in an emergency.

What is your organization doing?
