What Is Education For?

Here’s an interesting article in the National Post where the author argues that Canada’s education has slipped into a “crude fiscal pragmatism.”

  1. I’d suggest that liberal education has moved to the public domain. You can’t charge for it or institutionalize it anymore. There are so many free teachers out there (internet, library resources etc.) and eager students to match that nobody is going to pay top dollar anymore more. That’s why liberal arts universities have to resort to utilitarian education.

In other words: kids these days have a lot more understanding than you think, and they definitely didn’t get it from class
