The Emperor’s New Clothes

Every institution participates in a student survey now and then. We should interpret the results carefully, though, and not assume that they are a true reflection because it is a student survey. Like the Emperor in The Emperor’s New Clothes who refused to acknowledge that he was naked because he had paid so much money to the tailors, it is possible that students have paid so much money that they refuse to acknowledge that they are getting less than the best. Student surveys are important and helpful; however; we should be wise enough not to allow a positive result to blind us to reality.
